Haut Combiers is a small farm situated 2km south of St Paul la Roche, close to the river Isle. The owners are English and moved to France in July 2012, modernising and re-furbishing the existing farmhouse, as well as converting one of the two large barns into a house for themselves.
The house has wonderful views from both inside and out, looking over undulating countryside with large areas of woodland. Set in a rural location, with no other properties nearby apart from the owners, it is a secluded, tranquil and relaxing location. We are on hand should visitors have any queries and can advise on days out, markets, local bars and restaurants, etc.
We have dogs, cats, hens, bantams, guinea pigs, miniature ponies, pigs, horses and a few Dexter cattle on our small farm. During the summer months, the ponies live in the orchard by the house, where guests can pet and groom them. The ponies are not for riding, however, they are just pets. Our pigs are also very friendly and enjoy being fed by visitors. We often have bantam chicks about too. Children (and adults….) can help to feed and look after the animals if they would like to. Helping to wash the horses manes and tails during the summer, is an activity enjoyed by young and old alike! We usually have fresh eggs for guests and children love to collect the eggs from the hen house. Home grown vegetables may be available too, depending on the time of year.
In the summer months, several acres are kept clear of animals for visitors to walk in, as well as a wide walk around the outside of the pig and cattle fields. In April, in particular, there are large areas of bluebells and periwinkles in the woods, with many wild flowers coming through in the fields in May and June. There are lots of butterflies and dragonflies, as well as deer, which regularly graze on the land. In the autumn, stags appear from the woodlands on the hills opposite and can be heard bellowing to their rivals.
The farmhouse is a “home from home,” with comfortable beds and sofas, recently fitted kitchen, bathroom and separate shower room, but retaining a french country feel. It is surrounded by its own land, having far reaching views over the surrounding countryside, with no immediate neighbours and is very peaceful. The layout of the farmhouse is suitable for a range of visitors; from two people, a family, three generations or two families sharing. It has a ground floor bedroom and bathroom, should any visitors have mobility issues.
The owners are happy to be contacted should you have queries. This includes prior to booking or before your stay and can be via face-time at a pre-arranged time.
Please note that this is a non-smoking property and, due to the amount of animals we have on the farm, we cannot accommodate pets.
Our house in England is also available to rent for holidays. The house is in Northleach in the heart of the beautiful Cotswolds. Please view our website at: www.cranebrookcottage.com
